TAKE ACTION

1. Contact the Blaine City Council

Picture

If you live in the city of Blaine, please contact the Blaine City Council members and ask that they consider a humane pet store ordinance to end the sale of puppy mill puppies in Blaine pet stores.
  • If possible, contact your specific council member directly (their name and contact information are listed at right)
  • Or email the council: citycouncil@blaine.mn.gov

  • It's important to customize your email or letter in your own words. Please include in your message:
    - your name and address (state you are a resident of Blaine; council members want to hear from residents)
    - your opposition to puppy mills and the link to pet stores
    - your support of a humane pet store ordinance
    - your own personal story, if you have one
    - important: ask the council member for their support of the humane pet store ordinance and the protection of these animals

Keep us informed: If you can, please send us an email and tell us if you receive a response.

The above information and citizen call-to-action can be found on this flyer: Go Humane, Blaine

UPDATE: Blaine City Council

January 2022 to present: Efforts continue in speaking with the mayor and council members to gain support of the humane pet store ordinance and to help the animals trapped in mills and consumers who unknowingly purchase sickly pets. There are newly appointed council members in Wards 1 and 3.

PAST: On Monday, October 4, 2021, during a workshop session, the Blaine City Council, in a split decision, chose not to move forward on a humane pet store ordinance and instead to consider other options, such as regulating pet stores. This is most unfortunate for the animals, because the humane pet store ordinance is the best and most effective option to address the problem: the pipeline from puppy mills into pet stores.

Let your voice be heard. This is about education and awareness — making sure all council members understand why this issue is important to Blaine residents.
